Yes, that is a nest. If you're thinking of breeding then I suggest you do a lot of research. There is more to it than throwing a male and female together and letting natire take it's course. Taking care of fry is a big responsibility and time consuming with feeding, cleaning and water changes.

Please don't breed if you don't even know if it is a nest. It is not like guppies and the fry will eat anything. It takes time, work, and money to breed. Why do you think not everyone breeds?

Just please don't breed, your male is simply marking his territory.

No, most bettas will almost always make a nest when females are introduced, through a jar or some kind of barrier.

I would strongly not recommend breeding, at least yet as it is tedious. Once you are familiar with bettas, breeding, know about genetics, have fry food (they eat live food so if you can't feed live food you really can't breed as they rarely go after other foods). I don't breed because of space and time, everyone has one thing that keeps them from breeding at the moment.

I was saying that to what you said earlier, most people don't breed because they don't nest. They build nests to mark territory or breed, in your case it is territory.

All of my Males make a nest, and independantly of any females... they just make them.

Unless you have a goal for 2 or 3 hundred Betta fish, it is unwise to breed.

If your betta is 2 years old,it might be too old to breed.

I agree! Dont spawn if you dont know what you are doing and your tank isnt set up correctly anyway. :) Just enjoy his marking his territory!
