Smile Underwater Gardening Chat

Anybody want to talk plants? I am in the middle of clipping off old leaves and roots. Does anyone else find caring for plants as relaxing as i do?
the plants i have:
red melon sword (soooo pretty)
Red kotala (floating while they branch out)
Narrow leaf swords (I started with 1 i now have around 15)

I had to trim off some root rot from my Aponogeoton last night. :(
I have Aponogeoton crispus and natans, sunset Hygro, some regular Hygro, egeria, hornwort, anubias, java fern, bacopa, Pygmy chain sword, java and flame moss, crypt wendtii, and... Moss balls! :D
Do you mean red rotala? Is it high light? I want some more colour. I'm hoping my sunset Hygro stays pink. ^-^

Well usually red plants need higher Kelvin rating to stay red, but iron could be a problem too. Regular root tabs or liquid ferts contain enough iron for plants.
Hmm, home depot, at the fluorescent tube section. They have lots of info at my store. Try to find something 6000-6500 Kelvin in the size you need. That's the most important thing for plants.

I'd stick to plain playsand. The benefits of other substrates is debatable...
Are you going to get a good light for em? Really increases your options.

I have no idea if this would work but i always thought it would be cool if some one wove java moss into their divider like a privacy hedge.

Oh I'd do that if I had enough moss.
Take two pieces of mesh and squish the moss between em.

ok i've got some play sand (might need to buy a new bag though, the one i used has been sitting on the porch for months), and i like the look in the 29 gallon. i'm not sure about the light that comes with the tank i'm planning for. its a 5 gallon from Walmart, think the brand is aquacultur or hawkeye. they do sell plant growth bulbs at walmart though; how good they are, i have no idea.
