Eating algae?

I just got a new betta about a week and a half ago. I've been feeding him (Serendipty is his name) Tetra betta food but, since I also have 3 mystery snails in the tank with him, I've also been putting in algae disks every few days or whenever the algae seems low. Today, Serendipity has been eating the algae. Thinking he was just hungry, I offered him some of his regular food and some blood worms, which he picked at but left alone after a moment or so. Does anyone's else betta do this? Again, I haven't had him that long so I'm not sure if he just likes the algae or what.

could be something inthe algae like planaria. or he's just wierd

Yes my sorority LOVES the algae disks I put in for the pleco. I have to use sparingly as they bloat awful if they get really greedy but so far no real negative affects :)

I usually feed my snails in a separate tank. They feast or up to an hour then I put them back in. Bettas are always hungry. They can litrally eat themselves to death, because in the wild, food is rare so they must gorge themslves when necesary, unfortunately, humans don't realize this and overfeed thier bettas all too often.

The algae is healthy for the betta though, as long as it is not his staple diet.
