The one guy at my LFS is a reptile fish genius, he sold me my BP 8 years ago.
Anyways I saw a little boxfish and was like "oh I want him he's so cute!" Right up front he was like "that fish grows to one and a half feet, needs a 125 gallon tank and will destroy a reef tank. Also it's bite is poisonous."
Of course I didn't believe the adorable cubicus boxfish could be such a huge fiend.. But it's all true. :(

Can we clone your guy? There are fish and pet stores around the world who need someone just like him.

He's so awesome! We had an incredibly long convo about fish, complained about ignorant fish keepers and everything.
I did teach him some stuff about betta types though.

Haha... tell me about it. There is one person at petsmart who advocates 2.5 and a heater. Not that everyone listens. Of course the person I'm most likely to listen to is the lady who breeds them (not that she knows everything...) and the guy with the 55G Amazon tank who knows so much about plants!

My Petco has an employee who's pretty decent, too. On the Goldfish tank he put a big sign that says "Goldfish get big (1-3 feet depending on species). Fancy gold fish need at least a 20 gallon tank". And when people tried to ignore it and stuff too many goldfish in their tank he told them they couldn't add another because they would all outgrow the tank and die. And by the plecos there's another sign telling people that they can get between 1-2 feet big.

I also heard a woman ask him if she could just get a plant her kids' bettas could feed on and he told her that a betta might sleep in the plants but wouldn't eat them and needed actual food. Later when I asked him for pond snails to feed to my dwarf puffer he was very careful not to take them from the tanks he was medicating.

Not all pet store employees are awful.
