Suggestions on an upgrade

My little Betta is currently in a 2 liter tank. Which is better than the little cup I bought him in from PetSmart- but still entirely too small for him to live in forever I should be able to get him a new tank in about 3 months (I am staying with a relative during the summer.)
I know I need a filter, heater, (maybe) some decorations. My tank also has to be at least 2.5 gallons.
Could you recommend brands that exist in chain stores (such as Walmat, and Petsmart), or maybe you can give me a general idea of the type of item I am looking for? Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Not sure if you tried Kritter Keepers, but those are great, and you could get a large size, which is about 2-2.5 gal or maybe even 3 in any case, they work great, can hold a heater, decor, and are space saving.,and about 15$
Also there are some called the Mini bow desktop 2.5 gal there is one gallon ones as well, but yea, go for the 2-2.5 size:) These are the Mini Bow's

Thanks for the suggestions. These tanks look really good. Chances are I'm going to put my beta on the desk in my room (if the tank isn't that heavy). I can't wait to pick one out!

I was using a 3 gal on a glass end table, and it was fine..:)

Try the tetra 3 gal crescent. Its available from several spots -- Petsmart, Petco, Amazon. I really like the led light that comes with it. Should run about $40. But the LED light is well worth it.

I got a 3.5 gal at PetSmart for Hannibal. It has LED lighting with different settings and came with a filter. It's done in a halfmoon.

My favorite tank at the moment is my Hawkeye 5 gallon that I also got at PetSmart. It has LED lighting done in 2 colors with 3 settings. Came with filter. I added to it the neon green gravel, two fake purple plants, hiding decoration at PetSmart (has a big snail on it) and a live floating anubias plant along with filter. Gives a bit of a psychedelic effect and leaves plenty of swimming room. Had a HMPK in there.

Sounds amazing. If I was that fish, I'd probably be really content. Maybe I'll figure out a theme for my little betta boy before I get my tank. His name is Titan and he's a deep blue on his fins with an even darker color for his main body. I wonder what will fit him...

I know I want to upgrade Hannibal since my other half wants to do a theme in his tank. XD Keeps trying to get me to replace Hannibal's barrel decoration with different kinds of skulls but they're all too big for the tank.

The 5 gallon was decorated like it is to kind of show off Gwynfor's subtle colors. He was blue, pink, and purple under white dragon scales. He looked magnificent in the tank.

What tail type is your betta?
