Fin rot or tail biter?

im not sure if this should be in the disease section or here, but anyway, today i just realised that my male in my 8gal divided tank is either tail biting or has fin rot. i have never had experience with either of these so i was wondering if anyone could help.
i only noticed today. the water is around 78-80 degrees Fahrenheit i have a low flowrate filter and his attitude dosent seem to have changed. ive been feeding him pellets and occasionally, tubifex worms.
all help is very much appreciated

P.S how would i treat it? i do have AQ salt.

I'm not sure, it really looks like it could be either, what kind of Betta is he? That might help me figure out better cause it's such a close up picture (a very clear and good one mind you lol).

Regardless you can try taking him out for a few days and putting him in a smallish tank (easiest for you) and doing daily water changes with just your water conditioner to see if that helps any. If it gets worse and if you don't see your boy actually biting his tail you can continue onto actually treating him with the aquarium salt. 1 teaspoon per gallon pre-mixed with the daily water changes for a week.

thanks, hes a Ct lol , i used my mums camera cause mine is horrible XD. theres a whole body pic in my profile pic. i dont think its fin rot anymore because my female dosent seem to show any tail deterioration. thanks for the help, if things do get worse ill AQ salt him. :)

hhmm... it's hard to say, but my guess would be fin rot. x: just keep his water clean and see if it helps. :V

Well, if you say your female looks fine, he is most likely a tail biter.

Looks like fin rot to me. Sometimes it can even happen in a perfect tank due to past troubles - Apollo suffered fin rot his whole life with me despite being in a filtered, cycled 5 gallon at 80F with twice-thrice weekly 25% water changes. Just keep the water super clean. :)

thanks for all the info guys, im gonna do a water change today, ill be sure to keep it really clean. is there any way to help keep the fin rot off my female without moving tanks? i dont have a spare :(
