Exclamation Divided Tanks

i got my first Betta fish last month on the 21st and had him (Cpt. Morgan) in a small cube-shaped 2 liter tank and had him in there ever since. today i bought a much larger tank that came with a divider so that i could keep 2 Bettas in there supposedly without fighting. so i bought another fish (Sun Tzu) and transfered both in at the same time. at first they were doing fine. swimming around and following each other along the divider but about an hour ago i noticed the Cpt. had a small bite-sized hole in his tail and that both fish have gotten more aggressive, Sun Tzu being the most aggressive. is their fighting because they just became new tankmates? how long will it last?

How big is the tank? some that are sold with a divider are WAY to small for 2 bettas.

if he can clearly see the other betta, the one with the hole may of started bitting his fins. They do that if they get stressed. Try placing fake or real plants along the divider so they cant really see each other.

Its possible they may calm down after a day or so but its also possible that they won't. Some bettas will never get used to it.

i think the tank is 2.5 gallons. i was going to run up to petsmart to get more plant decorations anyway so i guess i'll put them along the divider

yea, 2.5 gallons is WAY too small for 2 bettas.

Maybe for one betta, but definitely not two. There is also a chance that the divider isn't completely going against the tank so there is some space and the fish could possibly be attacking each other...?

Also, if they could see each other, that's also a huge no no.

if anything, you can get two separate tanks :)

It might be cheaper and easier to do, but that's my opinion.
