Question Random question

Just a random question, when do fry stop giving off the growth stunting hormone? I'm really curious about this hormone...
My other question is, when the daddy is in the tank, do I leave the light on at all times until I remove him, or do I sometimes turn it off?

Wow, so glad you asked this. I am trying to decide on the best growout situation for my fry and I was wondering this as well.

That is two questions.

1. When they are full grown.

2. You can turn the light off or leave it on your choice.

1. IMO around 4 months.... not really sure .... tiny fry mixed with 4 month old will grow normally. So I assume abiut 4 months.

2. IMO lights disturb more than help. Bettas prefer darker environment. Don't worry, I cover my black tubs - no light at all but the male manages to care for the fry.

I don't worry about lighting except for the plants.

As for the light, I don't worry about it much either, but from my experience I've found that leaving the light on 24/7 can make the water develope brown algae if you don't do water changes thoroughly,

So as a result, I now only keep the light on when natural light is no longer available. Around 7pm Is when it starts getting dark here so I put it on then.

Hmm maybe thats why i have icky brown algae in my spawning tanks all the time... I usually leave the light on (during spawning) unless there is no one in there. there is plenty of light from the windows soo... hmmm Im gonna leave it off more often. :) Thanks for mentioning that!

Yup. It's saved me a bunch of water changes when there isn't any fish in the tank. Plus the light bill isn't too much either lol.

I was originally leaving the light on for a while to get the infu growing and keep my java moss thriving. :) Couldnt fig out why I kept getting brown algae, it was nuts! No fish were in there, wanted the water all perfect for spawning then it would turn brown after a couple of days... grr. thats very annoying!!
