New halfmoon!

I went to the fish/reptile store to check out Bettas and I found a real cutie!

I've named him "Stunt" due to his stunted-looking tail.

What I was wondering is, can anyone help me with:

- Are the edges of his fins black, or is that fin rot? :( I put some Bettafix in his tank just in case
- What's up with this tail, is it just deformed? Maybe bitten at some point?

He was in a tank full of some kind of tetra, seems happy to have his own territory now!

It doesn't look like finrot to me. Probably just some black edging. I have one halfmoon male like that. Finrot will also look like tiny holes in the edges of his fins.

His fins do look like he (or the tetra) bit them at one point. I see a lot of pet store bettas with fins like that. Give him some good food, warm water and he'll be gorgeous in a few weeks.

Very pretty find!

His tail will grow back then? That's wonderful, thanks!

I'm happy to report that he still seems very active and healthy :) Even after I had to move him so my cat wouldn't bat at his tank, lol.

What a beautiful boy! I thought Neptune was a Halfmoon because that's what his cup said but yesterday when he flared in the mirror I realized he is actually a super delta. Pet stores are notorious for mislabeling their fish. It's funny to me that they carry halfmoons but not deltas ;)
