There's another betta forum that I frequent, but it's not as active as Bettatalk. The members there are very friendly. Its name starts with a "U". I prefer Bettafish over that forum because it doesn't take days for your questions to be answered. I've also gotten good betta and live plant info from a planted tank forum.

Yes that particular forum is good. Many good guides. Its been a bit slow as of late :/

Unfortunately the one that starts with a U had a moderator who was very rude to me and accused me of abusing my fish because I don't keep them in 10 gallon heated, filtered tanks.

Yeah, I've come across that type of thing too. I once mentioned that I had a betta in a heated 1.5g and got the impression from the replies that they thought anything under 5 gallons was as good as a dirty cup. I was also told that anything under 10 gallons couldn't be cycled, which I personally know is completely false. Other than that, I haven't really had much trouble with the members there.

I once posted on a forum for vivariums and pet frogs and suddenly had about 10 rude people on my back for using soil and having large-leafed plants. I was also told that I would need to do daily 100% water changes for my 1.5g betta tank (which is inside the vivarium), even if it was filtered and cycled. I was basically told that I needed to immediately tear apart my vivarium and start completely fresh. Some forums end up having really rude, unhelpful members...fortunately, I haven't come across that on this forum.

We don't believe in being rude here. What's the point? We want people to learn about proper fish care and saying something like omg! You're keeping your betta in less that 10 gallons! You horrible fish abuser! is not going to help. You CAN cycle a tank less than 10 gallons. It's the really small ones that you can't cycle. You have to have enough surface area for the beneficial bacteria to grow.
