Stress Stripes

I've got a young female Betta with stress stripes. She had them when I got her. She eats well and swims around often. I gave her a cave hidey and a silk plant to hide in.

Is there anything else that could help the stripes go away? She's TEMPORARILY in a 1 gal critter keeper (unfortunately Unheated) for a few more days before I put her in to a sorority.

she might just be young. Bettas always have them and then when they get older their true colors cover the stress stripes. If you have everything in good shape and she's acting fine then I would just assume she's a young'un

How about in the case of an older fish? A friend of mine has a female betta in a 1g without a heater. I saw it yesterday.

hmm. I would assume that something has got them stressed. If I had to guess it'd be the lack of heat. But if the house is kept warm then maybe not enough water changes?

Could be. It looked a little dirty and it wasn't filled up all the way. SO it had less than a gallon. I didn't say anything yesterday bc she was upset about her rat's cyst.

Also like I said, her QT tank is Unheated & stays around 72 :(
But in a few days I will have her in the sorority- which is heated to 80, so maybe that'll help.

Stripes don't always mean stress.....stripes and color changes are forms of communication and camouflage.....

My first betta Junior has 3 white stripes on 3 different fins at first I thought it was from stress but after all this time I realize its just part of his color and makes him even more unique.

Regarding a heater Petsmart has a Marina Betta 8w Mini Heater for 1-1.5 gallon tanks for 11.99. Its a submersible heater that is keeps the tank at about 80 degrees. It's a great heater and it's small and compact and will not take up a lot of space even in a 1 gallon tank. 72 degress is cold for tropical fish like betta. Please recommend this to your friend.

I think you meant to reply to me instead of laki xD
I know 72 degrees isn't ideal- but it's for QT and I have to Keep the QT tanks on a shelf because my cats can't get to them and I don't have another surface in my room that can hold the tanks. They will be together by Wednesday is what I'm planning on.
