My cat has been quite the persistent kitty in getting my fish.
I found that ANYTHING atleast 2 gallons, rectangular/has a secure lid proved to be too difficult for her.
Place it ontop a sticky pad to give it a more secure grip to the table as well.
Something like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Duck-12-x-...Liner/16456560

Take the plastic plant out, it looks too spiky for delicate betta fins.

I'm sorry. Where do you see what plants this user is using?

I think Aus is assuming that spiky plant is included in the kit from the images of the packaging provided on PetSmart.

The site says it comes with a silk plant.
Silk plants are the #2 plant for bettas(live plants being #1). So I doubt that plant is doing much harm to the OP's betta.

Just remember that a gallon of water weighs about 8 lbs (I think I read that somewhere) so if you have a 2 gallon tank your cat would have to be able to push 16 lbs (roughly) off the shelf

I must have one strong kitty.
To be able to push her own weight off the counter(1 gallon tanks). Now a 2 gallon BOWL. I can see a cat pushing that off the counter. 1 gallon rectangular tank maybe more difficult than a 1 gallon bowl.
