I had two betta losses over the weekend. :(
First was Shamu, who I gave as a gift to my mom back in November. He was a lavender and white "king sized" HMPK. My mom named him Shamu because he would always jump for his food. In May, my parents went out of town and left the AC off and the temps soared in the house and he took the stress of his water temp increasing so much out on his fins. I did a water change and lowered the temp and thought he'd be ok - but he never recovered. Last week he became lethargic and stopped eating. I took him home with me to watch after but he died just two days later. he had barely any top and bottom fins left. I feel so guilty for neglecting him after that stressful time in May. I wish I had checked on him sooner. Needless to say, my mom doesn't want any more fish. She said she's better with plants.
Yesterday I lost my girl, Juliette as well. She had been not eating and avoiding the other girls (in the sorority) for a day or so. So I placed her in QT. A few days later and no response to treatment I noticed she had severely raised scales and almost no color and her body was very bloated all over. She was gone by the next day. I knew it was dropsy and there was nothing I could do. I made her as comfortable as possible. I'm glad she's no longer suffering and is swimming under the rainbow bridge with Sun now.
I'll miss you Juliette! I'm so sorry Shamu!
