Betta just stares out tank all day

My Crowntail, male Betta fish, Kingston just stares out of his tank all day long. He doesn't move around much and he stares out as if he is waiting for something to happen. Also, I've had him since Sunday and he hasn't eaten at all. I put whole pellets in his tank but he just let them fall to the bottom. Then, the next day, I decided to crush up the pellets. Kingston just stared at the food floating to the bottom. What's wrong? Is there something I'm doing wrong? I really want to have a happy Betta!

Welcome to the forum...what size in your tank and did you condition the water before putting him in it ? Does he have a heater or what temp is the water ? I think its fairly normal for some not to eat for a few days when while they are getting used to their new home. Do you have any decoration in his tank and maybe a cave to hide in or explore, plants are good they dont have to be real I have silk ones since they can tear their fins on anything sharp, if it sharp enough to rip pantyhose then they could rip their fins on it so thats a good test to do when in doubt. Best of wishes I am sure you will get other ideas from the people here they are very nice.

Bettas like warm water at least 78 up to the lowers 80`s , they are more active in warmer water they are not a cold water fish.

Perseusmom, I currently have a 1 gal. tank although in the next week or so, I plan on purchasing a larger one. I did condition it with a tablet. There isn't a heater, but the temperature of his tank is always within a degree or two of 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I do have a plant, but it's plastic. Thankfully, I tried the pantyhose trick and they didn't rip. Thanks for your help!

With the 1G are you changing his water often? Like, every day or two at least?

I have heard some people dropping bottle caps in the water for them to play with. As for the not eating, it might take him a couple days to get used to his surrounding. Dumbledore didn't eat for 2 days after I first got him. Maybe someone else can explain the bottle cap thing better than I, I've never tried it. Good luck.
