Had to rescue him, now how do I help him?

We were in Petco this afternoon picking out a Betta for my (second) tank. I had already picked one out when I came across another little guy. He's not a baby, but you can tell he's relatively young.

He was swimming all around and he came right over to the edge of his cup and stared right at me. The label on the cup said he was a Halfmoon, but I have no idea if he is or not. His fins are a mess.

I couldn't leave him there so I brought him home. Our daughter has a 3 gallon aquarium set up that currently doesn't have anything in it. We're going to put him in there for her and he'll be her fishy -- although, of course, he's really my responsibility.

What can I do to help make him better? Is this something that needs to be treated or does he just need time?

I bought a heater at the same time I picked him up since that's the only thing she didn't have.





And the one I picked out for myself. Still trying to think of names.

If there are no other issues, just warm clean water changed every couple of days and a caring owner should set him right

His colors are pretty, he'll be a looker too once he's healed up!

Stresscoat always helps. :) And I've seen some rec's for bloodworms to help build up his protien stores (helps fins and muscle mass). :)

I agree with what's been said already! Clean, warm water, stresscoat and high protein foods should do the trick!

I took in a rescue recently who was in a cup with no interest in food, the first night I had him, I put him in a Kritter keepr, and added some AQ salt, my fishy had fin rot, did this for 3 days, and changed his water completely, for the 3 days, and got him to eat, took some time,

but he finally came around, and now after he started getting some energy from eating, he wanted to start swimming, and now he's moved into a 3 gallon tank, heated with plants, and a hidey cave, and he is loving his new home..

that is pretty much all it takes, get them to eat - and magic takes over, most of the time, providing there is not internal issues.. Wish you well with your rescue..once you see what they can do once they get that energy..it's non stop..lol..I love it.. Good Luck!!
