I just bought her two days ago, so I'm not sure about health history. For the most part she swims normally, but she occasionally turns to the side while she's swimming. Is this early SBD? She doesn't have any bloating. She's also been hiding more than the other girls (one I've had for awhile, the other one came home yesterday) but I didn't think anything of it, since she's new and adjusting to her new home. But now that I see her swimming a bit odd, I'm worried. Any suggestions? I took a video of her swimming on my phone, I'll post it when I figure out how to send it to my computer Thanks in advance!!

Here's the link to the video. She's the Blue Mickey Mouse platy. She's swimming fine in the beginning, but does the sideways thing about 14 seconds in.

It almost looks like she's being blown away. Could it be that your filter's current is too strong? My betta did the same thing before he got used to the filter in his tank.


I'm new to platies too!! I got 2 females the other day. :)

I don't think the current is too strong, I think it's mostly at the surface in the middle of the tank. I still like that idea though, maybe she's just not used to it? I'll keep an eye on her for the next couple days and see if it gets any better. She's been hanging with the other girls more today, so I think that's a good sign Thanks!

So far I love platys! They have such cute little, spunky personalities!
