Fish Water...?

Well yesterday I got a new betta, I did everything right and when I woke up, he was dead. Petco let me exchange for a new fish and now I'm kind of nervous about transferring him in fear that he may end up dead too :O should I use the same water that the previous fish died in? It's not cloudy and I used water conditioner and let the water age for a few days...

Did you acclimate him? It's either that or he was sick in the 1st place. Sorry about him. :(

I would get the water tested before you think about putting anything else in there just to ensure it is OK, not sure about where you are but we can have a full range of tests done at out local shop for a £1

Yea :( idk of he was sick because he was pretty active in the pet store :/

Suggest you do a water change, 50% with salt and all the good stuff.

I personally wouldn't be comfortable putting a new fish into water a previous fish passed away in, but at the same time I can understand not wanting to do a 100% water change if your tank is fairly large, cycled or in the midst of cycling. I know with our large tank we'd do a large water change if a fish passed away, but there were multiple fish in the tank so a full clean-out wasn't possible and the tank had a very stable cycle that we didn't want to disrupt.

If I may ask: how big is your tank? Is it heated/filtered? It's quite possible the little one was sick when you bought him and just couldn't cope with the change in lifestyle.

If your betta's tank is 5 gallons and under I would ere on the side of caution and do a complete water change.
