100 WATT Heater for 2.5 gal?

Okay I have a betta sorority in a heated 10 gal tank. I also have a 2.5 gal I use for QT. I figured I'd buy a heater for this QT tank in case I had an impulse buy for another betta. But the heater I have in the 10 gal is 100 watts. It's only $5 more than the 50 watt one. I figure if I get the 100 watt one for the QT tank, if anything happened to my sorority heater, I'd have a back up.

My question being- can I use a 100 watt heater in a 2.5 gallon unfiltered tank?

NOPE, I doubt it would really even fit in it. But you really need a 25 watt 50 is pushing it.

I use a fifty in both my ten gallon and my 2.5 and they work great. I wouldn't get anything bigger for the 2.5, and a 50 would be fine for a backup. It's not quite as efficient at heating the water and 100, but it does do the job.

I agree with SweetNightmare. And a 50W seems to be the most cost-effective, too

Thanks everyone. They don't make 25 w ones where I'm buying it (it's on sale & I have a gift card so it'll be like $11) I think I will get the 50 W and use my extra 10 gal tank for QT. Now I just need to find a hood for it O.o

No I was looking on amazon. What heater is it that you're getting?

Also, if I were to get a 25 W heater- is it okay that my 2.5 gal is plastic?

if you search on ebay for heater 25w, there should be one under $6. I havent tried it yet and shipping is slow. But when I do get it i'll tell you how it goes. heaters usually comes with suction cups which will attach to the walls, so that the heater wont be directly touching the walls.
