Fin/Tail Issues

Hi Folks,

I'm new here, trying to determine what's wrong with my double tail betta. Within the past few days, the webbing in his fin/tail is separating. There are a few factors:

1. Two days ago his water condition was very poor and I noticed his webbing separating. I did a 90% water change and the levels are back to normal. I also added 2 tablespoon of aquarium salt tot he water.

2. Last week, I added a tank mate, a 2.5" albino bristlenose pleco. They don't bother eachother during the day but when the lights go off - I have no idea what happens.

3. He's in a 10 gallon tank, some live planks, aquarium decorations and a clay pot. There was a plastic plant in there which I removed this morning.

Here's a before picture (was taken June 22):

Here is a picture taken this morning:

He also has a white thing on one of his smaller fins.. Can anyone help me?

Does your filter have a baffle on it? Does your filter intake have a sponge inside or around tje outside? Some filter currents and filter intakes can rip a bettas fins.

I'm using an air driven sponge filter, you can see it in the second picture.

I just removed it this morning, thinking that it may have been doing it.
