The instructions given to me when I bought my Betta just six days ago says once a week. Filtered or bottled water is not recommended, just take some water from the tap. Make sure you use a dechlorinator to remove the chlorine. Let stand over night in another container to equalize the temperature and then put it in your fish tank/bowl.

It also depends on the size of your tank/bowl, if its filtered, and if there are other fishies in the tank.

Okay, it is in a one gallon bowl. I changed it today by removing his plants, scooping him with a net, putting him back into the small container he came in with some of the old water, and washing all plants and rocks with hot water. Then i filled the bowl with conditioned water at the same temp as the old water. I think i did it right, but if i didnt please tell me.

Good Job Sushi,
However, you wouldn't want to change his water like that regularly. That will greatly stress him out. At least 2 times a week, take out a cup of water, and replace it with one cup "treated" water.
This is less stressful, and i've heard it helps the "good" bactaria. :P

Great. Yeah i do that as well, like when the water seems cold. I like to replace some like that with warmer water to keep him nice and cozy. My room gets pretty cold so i want to make sure he is good without a heater. I planning on getting one. And i am also saving up for a 2.5 gal tank.
