What is this white stuff?

Here's some info about my tank:
2.5 gallons, baffled filtered, heated
currently using stess coat + for conditioning
make sure no food falls to the bottom of the tank when feeding

Recently I've seen this white stuff floating around while changing his water. Then I noticed it around the top of his heater. Here are a few pictures I have of it.

Anyone know what this is? Or if it's harmful? Or how to get rid of it if I need to? Thanks!

It this just on the heater or filter as well?

So far from what I am seeing it looks like calcium build up due to hard water. I would suggest soaking it in distilled vinegar to break down. Then give it a good cleaning.

It's looks to only be on the heater. It kind of reminds me of spider webs when it's floating around the water. If that makes any sense. :/ I first noticed it when I was siphoning the gravel and just recently noticed it around the heater.

ive asked the same question before and was told its bio film, which is harmless, you can clean it off easily. i clean mine off with an algae scrub pad. I get it mainly on my heaters also. it may come back, i ususally have to clean mine off a couple times a month.

It looks like mold or another type of fungus to me. Dunno why it would be growing just around your heater... maybe some kind of trace chemical it likes in the heater sealant or something?

Probably harmless. Just rinse it off IMO.

It came off really easy and felt like slime. Thanks for your help guys. I'll just clean it off when I see it.
