Thermometer question....

Anyone have the Aqua Culture digital thermometer from walmart? I got mine last night and it's not reading. I plan to take it back tomorrow and get a real thermometer soon (i don't get paid for another 9 days)

Is it maybe because I have a plastic tank, not glass?

is there a way to put your hand in and gauge the temp appoximently (as in a bit too hot or too cold?

I have a baby betta from Petco that I got on Friday, from the growth pics, I'm guessing him to be about 8-9 weeks ish. so I know they need the warmer water. I haven't yet got a heater (Horrid betta mamma, I know, I am panicking cause I have learned so much from here already) but the light and the humid/hot room he's in, the water feels a bit more than room temp.
he's been pretty non stop swimming, and playing peek a boo from his cave,
and eating mini pellets whole (if one slips out while I'm crushing it in my fingers) so I'm assuming he's doing fine.

I did take out the filter til I get a sponge filter to cover it tomorrow. and in the process of getting a 10gal tank and running a full cycle on!

Did you remove the plastic over the battery and made sure the battery is sitting properly?

With the warmer weather you're having, he should be fine for a few days.
