Effing water wisteria - a rant

I cannot keep water wisteria alive for love or money. The last one I got for my new tank setup didn't have good roots, so I thought I'd float it for a few days. I left it over the weekend, came in this morning to find a completely disintegrated, rotted plant and a very dead fish. That plant is EVIL. /end rant.

Low lighting, water temp +/- 79 degrees. My java ferns are doing awesome. I'm sure the dead plant is completely my fault, but I stand by my assertion that it's evil. :)

Alright :)

my condolences on the fish who fell victim to the evil plant. Aquarium plants are sometimes not kept in the best conditions in stores.

This happened to my wisteria too. Except it didn't happen overnight, it did eventually disintegrate.

I haven't had any luck with wisteria/sprite! Don't know why. I've tried one last bunch in my new aquarium. IT's never killed anything, but aside from nibbling the stems, not even the snails will touch em.

The thing with wisteria is when you buy it, a lot of times it's grown emersed (doesn't have the long branched out leaves). Because it grows so differently emersed vs. submerged, its transition can be pretty tough on the plant. I lost a good portion of my wisteria because of this transition, but if it survives and begins growing its watersprite-like leaves, it grows extremely fast and well. Just give it a good substrate (dirt!) - lighting can be low, medium, or high with wisteria - and it'll shoot off!

I used to have issues with plants and anything regarding plants. Well a change in light and the right information has turned my thumbs green! Trust me I failed at everything and came home to a dead male as well (Im sorry for what happened to your boy!) I recommend a light bulb at 6500k if it is a smaller bulb go to walmart they have one for $5. OFL told me about them. Also try to dose some kind of ferts if you arent using a soil or nutrition rich substrate. Personally wisteria has grown like weeds under the right lights for me. Even in a window that gets good sun. Try anacharis and duckweed or frogbit. My favorite is purple cabomba! It turns purple and is gorgeous IMO. Dont give up you can do it!!
