they need to add conditioned water to the filter, i would add the water straight to the filter untill its full and stops gurgling. having a filter run dry can stop the filter completely. depending on the size of the tank im sure they can put some water in a bucket or even a container and add some conditioner, u can't really over condition so i dont think they can mess it up.

If there's no one to unplug the filter, or add water, I imagine there isn't anything you can do until you can get there yourself. Just cross your fingers and hope it's okay til you can tank care of it?

Do you have a deadbolt? If not, do you have a friend experienced with credit cards and common house locks? lol No, seriously, I would call someone to either add water or unplug the filter--depending on the size of your tank. I imagine a large enough tank would be fine a day without water circulation, and if your tank media stays wet your bacteria should bounce back, too (like have them just drop the tank media into the tank if they're not comfortable adding water).

I'm a newbie myself, so hopefully a more experienced member can chime in as well. All I know is your filter can burn out if it runs while dry.
