Okay, so here's my situation. A few days ago, I won a betta on Aquabid (my first in over a year!), and the night I paid for him, I found out that my dad decided to leave for vacation earlier than I thought. I wouldn't be home to get the fish, so I had the shipper send it to the post office up where we are. I brought a temporary 2.5 gallon tank since I'll only be up here for two weeks, as well as some food for him, a heater, water conditioner, and aquarium salt.
The betta arrived on the 3rd alive and well, and he was fine until this morning, when I noticed a huge chunk of his tail missing but still hanging from the edge of his fin. I don't imagine he could have cut it on the small plant that's in there...It's only silk, but I might take it out of there anyway.
My question is, what can I do for him while I'm up here? The problem is that we are in the middle of nowhere in the Adirondack Mountains (I'm in North Creek) and I'm pretty sure the closest Petco is probably in Glens Falls or Queensbury, over an hour away. I didn't bring my car, and there's no way my dad is going to drive all the way down there just so I can get stuff for the fish. He's one of those "It's just a fish, it will be fine" people. The only way I'd be able to stop there is if he drives down there to take his fiance shopping at the outlet stores, which probably won't happen till next week.
I just gave him a water change, and 4 pellets. He seems fine, but I don't want him to get worse. How often should I change his water and treat with AQ salt?
