Fin Rot

Hello, my betta was given to me for my birthday in April. He is a half moon betta named Mushoo (from Mulan). I believe he has fin rot. He has the black and torn edges on his tail. I have been using distilled water with conditioner and betta fix for about a week. The tail seems to continue to shrink. I took him out of his 1 gallon tank and put him in a liter tank to get the healing started. I would do a 100% water change every two days with the betta fix but like i said it doesn't seem to help. I put him back in his tank so he be happy and comfortable where he can lay in his plant (real) and clam shell. What else can I do?

How often are you doing water changes in the 1G? Does he have a heater? I would use tap water, with conditioner. There are minerals and stuff he needs that aren't in distilled water.

I am making at least 100% once a week water changes. There is a heater that keeps the water at 74. There is no filter in the tank.

In a 1G, I would bump the water change schedule to at least 1x50% and 1x100%, pref 2x50% and 1x100%

Is there any way to bump up the temperature? That's on the cold side for a betta :(

I will go get a new heater. I don't think it is working properly. Another thing, I haven't seen him eat. He has a live plant so I was thinking he was just been eating that because he shows no interest in the food I drop in the tank ( I have bought flakes and pellets to get him to eat!). He is an energetic fish. The first day I got him he made a bubble nest but I don't know what could be causing the fin rot and why its still breaking down his tail.

They're insectivores, they don't eat plants at all. Do you leave the uneaten food in the tank?

Only for a little while in case he eats it when im not watching. Then i come back and take out what he didn't eat so it doesn't funk up the water.

Ok good. Does he see the pellets? Will he just not eat them, or what's going on?

One time he ate a pellet and spat it out and swam away. So I got the flakes which he completely ignores. So I try both and have no luck.

Can you crush up a pellet and see if he will eat that?
