question about almond leaves

Hi,

I am going to be setting up my first breeding tank, I am going to use a half of a styrofoam cup for the bubble nest, my question is if I put in an almond leave will the male build the nest under the half cup or the almond leave?

I also heard of a product called "Atison's Betta SPA" is this a good product and can it be used in place of the actual almond leave?

Hello,

I am still a newbie myself (only two spawns under my belt).. So far i have used both Atison's Betta SPA and placed an almond leave in together (maybe a little over kill? maybe not? Maybe a more experience breeder can shed some light? ). Because i try to cycle my spawn tank before, my leave usually falls to the bottom of the tank.

1st spawn my HM male made the nest under the Styrofoam cup

2nd spawn (same male) started the nest under the Styrofoam cup then later extended and moved the nest outside of it (wasn't enough room for his nest) It was a really big bubble nest

Both my spawns, the male made the nest under the Styrofoam cup but that's because my leave is at the bottom of the tank

Not sure if i answer your question but thought i shared my experiences.

All three of my spawns this year I just used a large IAL and the male built the nest under it. It seemed to float long enough... I did not use styro.

Depend on the male
Even with those two thing inside the tank he might just chose a corner n build his nest

In my experience, nine times out of ten the male nests under the leaf. It helps simulate their natural environment, and helps strengthen the eggs. I've never used betta spa, but I understand it softens the water and adds nutrients for both parents and young. Can never ever over do it, the more natural the better.
