New 10gal! Stocking and setup suggestions welcome!

I found a 10g with stand for $20 and bought a 5gal as a quarantine tank
going to get a 100w hagen elite adjustable heater for $15 ( Apparent they're reliable enough for a 10g.)

It's still empty, but I'm thinking of setting up the 10gallon as a NPT with a betta, 4 cory cats and 20 cherry shrimps.

Plants I have in mind are java moss, rotala, water wisteria, azolla and another stem plant.

I have enough Java moss to tie on a decent sized rock.

I'm still trying to figure out where to get some MTS in Sydney...

Are there any Australian here who can recommend a good brand of soil? i'm going to top with silica sand if I can find the snails. If not I'll be going for gravel and find corycat alternatives

Betta of course, maybe 6-8 Pygmy corydoras...most other cories will be too big but there are a few other kinds you could put in a ten gallon, I just forget the names...maybe some kind of tetra?

For plants, anbias are good, too! So are crypts!

I got my anubias at petco years ago.. Most I'd spend on one is 7.99

Check the ones in the tubes with the gel, medium ones should be cheap.. $5-10

Never bury the bottom part that the leaves grow out of, I just set mine gently on the gravel and the roots tunnel themselves

*On the right* .. The one on the left I bought about a month ago and it has gotten HUGE with my new florescent T8 light

Oh crap, sorry, I didn't know that..

Are there some local plants you can snag? I"m sure you have some there that I'd be jealous to get :)

It's a good place to start.. I have 2 sickly looking baby java ferns that I'm leaving alone and a bunch of naja grass as well as some java moss I'm rooting to an old black and white arch rock..
