I cannot take care of them anymore

Hi all,

I hope this isn't a violation of some rule. I have two betta fish and I love them but we got a puppy recently and I just cannot take care of all these pets, it is getting too overwhelming. I live in Santa Monica (in Los Angeles) so definitely am looking for someone from this area to adopt my fish. The classifieds forum here won't let me post because I don't have 100 posts here yet (always been a lurker) so I posted my ad on craigslist but I really think I might find people who will actually care for these fish here.

Here is the ad if anyone's interested

Yes, me too. I have started slipping on water changes. I do a 40-60% water change every week (THANK GOD they are cycled) and this was OK earlier but ever since getting the puppy I feel like I am a zombie always running to do something for one of my pets. I will still be very careful about who I give them to. I'd rather keep them myself than give them to someone who won't care for them properly.

another solution might be to add more plants... then they'll only need about 25% WC every week in a cycled tank. Your plants seem to be doing beautifully.

That's a good idea. These tanks are heavily planted already. I could probably decrease % water change right now. I wish I could also decrease the frequency though. That's what kills me the most.

So does everyone else in the hobby xD I wish you luck in finding the right homes for them! The tanks look beautiful and I'd say the same thing about maybe adding some fast growing plants that would help with any more ammonia?

Hmm, have you thought about selling the fluvals alone, getting a 10 gallon and dividing it for them? You'd probably get enough from selling the two tanks. You'd only need to do one water change a week then.
Just an idea, hate to see your pets go. :(

Beautiful fish, good luck in finding them homes.
I only do a weekly water change in my betta tanks, I do 30% change siphoning off from the bottom and both mine are fine with this
Both tanks have a lot of live plants

No prob! Hope that it works out for you! :)
And yes, I do heavy water changes in my "other fish" tanks, but my 15 gallon with 2 betta really only needs around 30% a week.
