Exclamation Questions on my Mom's betta.

To start off this post, I'll start with good news! We just moved him into his awaiting 3 gallon tetra crescent. So far, he's enjoying it. Usually I don't watch my mom's betta but I've had a concern for the past few days of watching him in his old 1 gallon bowl. My concern is about the fact he's always at the top and when he swims it seems he's having a lot of trouble swimming towards the bottom. It seems like he just floats right back up no matter how much he tries to swim down. He sometimes swims sideways, too. (He likes to follow my finger, which is how I figured that out.) I've also noticed some black spots on his fins, so below there are pictures of him (and his new home!) I think he might have a small case of fin rot, I'm not sure. but I'd like some opinions on this. Thank you!

i dont know about the fin rot but he looks bloated to me, do you know how much he gets fed? he might need a couple of days of fasting. Epsom salt also helps with with this. usually 1tsp per gallon. the fasting alone for a couple of days may help on its own though

Indeed, and bloat leads to swim bladder disorder. Remember that bettas in the wild eat.. not even every day, and this is the norm. We use the majority of our energy warming ourselves but bettas don't use any because they are cold-blooded. Remember that next time you feed.

NOW plz fill out a sticky? also, doeshe have dropsy? it looks a little like it.

I was thinking he looked bloated too.. I wasn't too sure. My mom said she feeds him 3-4 pellets a day. I'll tell her to fast him for a couple days and see the results.

Pogthefish I'll be sure to tell my mom to feed less...she might be feeding more than I know, I'm unsure. But I knew right away he didn't look right so I had to post :/ As for dropsy, it's a hard call. He's not lethargic, he's actually very energetic and swims quite a lot. He just can't swim correctly :/. I'll need someone else to give say on this but I hope for the best...

lol one question, how often do you change the filter cartridge? Also, I really recomend a heater, jsyk.. anyway, fast for awhile because overfeeding often leads to swimbladder problems. If he goes 3 days w/o eating and still not betterm give 1 pellet and add some aq salt. Only keep the aq salt in for a maximum of 10 days because it causes kidney damage.
