How can I Cycle a Five Gallon Tank Fast?

I just setup a five gallon tank with Petco black sand, heater, filter, and an thermometer. I don't have a test kit, thought I could get one in maybe a few days. But I need to know how to cycle is fast, I have a twenty gallon tank that's been running for a while. Would adding some of the floss type stuff from the filter pad speed up the process? I also have a Rosy Red Minnow that didn't get eaten from my turtles, Would doing a fish less cycle be better or not? also how do I start the process, I've cycled tanks before but not for at least a year and have completely forgotten how to do it normally also. Please help me so I can get a beautiful Betta in the tank faster.

If your tank is cycled...
Take some gravel from the established tanks and make a pouch out of a panty hose to put the gravel in. Then place it in the new tank. If you're not changing gravel colors or do't mind the old gravel mixing in with the new, just dump it in the new tank.
The filter pad is another option.
It will take 1 or 2 weeks to cycle.

i would definately add the floss to the filter that will do more than adding the gravel, but doing both should do it. ive added cycled media to new tanks and have had no problems

That's right, Mega. The filter is where the highest flow is, where the most food passes over the bacteria. Put your seeded media in there.

Bacteria like food, air, warmth and darkness. so.....

----Feed it 3.0/4.0 ppm ammonia

----Run a bubbler or get air into the flow somehow.

----Turn your heater all the way up. 90* is not too hot.

---Cover it.

I can consistently cycle a tank (the filter, really) in less than ten days.

You have the water test schedule down, right?
