Fin Nip vs Fin Rot?

I had a platy who was nipping my betta and I had to seperate them. My bettas fins look like the color was strippped off and all is left is white "bone" or line where the color was. How do I tell the difference from fin nip and fin rot? Because I know he was nipped but I want to know if there is also some rot in there.

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? It hasnt
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? It hasnt
When did you start noticing the symptoms? Yesterday
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? I seperated the platies from the betta.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? No
How old is your fish (approximately)? Not sure, but I bought him from the pet store a week ago.

Good that you removed the Platy....the 5gal filtered really isn't suited for more fish along with the Betta....fine to add shrimp and/or snails.....anyway....

Once you have a break in tissue this can become a secondary infection....IMO/E the best medication is fresh, dechlorinated water from frequent water changes and good nutrition.....

Since it just happened-I would make 50% daily water changes for 3 days-Then 50% every other day for 3 days-Then 50% twice a week for 7 days-Vacuum 1/3 of the tank every 3rd water change...

Then get on a regular schedule of 50% weekly with vacuum in all areas that you can reach without moving anything or disruption of plant roots to maintain water quality.
Filter media-needs a rinse/swish in the bucket of old tank water a couple of times a month to maintain good water flow.

Nutrition-good quality varied diet fed in small frequent meals-If you have access to mosquito larva offer several rinsed for one meal a day to boost protein intake.

Watch the fins and if they start to look worse or he has a change in behavior he may need a treatment....
