Exclamation Can fake coral hurt your fighter?

Well, I have some fake coral as decor and my betta now has a cut near his eye. Is it the coral that caused it? Or was it already there when I bought him? Because I handle him as gently as possible and put some new conditioner in the tank's water every time I do the 25% or 100% clean. Please note: My Gorgeous doesn't like filters - it annoys him. And is there anything that can speed up the healing? Thanks~~!

Did you take out the coral? I think you're right about it being the culprit. Here is a useful article: http://nippyfish.net/sick-betta/wounded-betta/. Also if you don't get an adjustable heater, then you can baffle it. Another useful website:http://www.petfish.net/kb/entry/347/

Most likely the fake coral...my daughter bought a fish decoration of a purple coral tree about 3 inches tall..you'd think that a "top fin" brand product would be safe, but I found it to be amazingly rough!
Good old Stress Coat by API will help healing fins, scale, etc...if any possibility of infection, add aquarium salt at 1-2 teaspoons per gallon. Make sure salt is predissolved in water before hand...gallon milk or water jug works great!
