Betta problem help!

My daughter has cared for her Betta for about 10 months without any problems, Yesterday she told us that Ribbon didn't eat her food (I know it's a he, but a 7 year old girl refuses to believe anything that pretty is a he). I went to look and found that Ribbon had two small round protrusions on either side of his mouth. The top of his jaw looked a little sunk in perhaps as well, but I'm not sure. The fish bowl has been changed regularly with no interruption to the usual schedule, and we've never had a problem with this Betta before. Any thoughts?

Something like this will be hard to diagnose without a picture. Is it possible for you to post one? The possibilities that fit your description could be bacterial, fungal, viral... there is no way to know without seeing it.

If you post a picture we can then help you figure out what the problem is and how to help fix it.

Keep in mind, if the fish has stopped eating, time is of the essence. Once they stop eating it affects their immune system and makes helping them much more difficult.
