Fish in cycles are very stressful for both you, your fish and it takes a heck of a lot longer to cycle. I tried doing a fish in cycle and now I have my female in a temporary 2.5 gal tank so I can cycle her 10 gal.

Not that it can't be done. Just do lots of research, people like OFL are very experienced in things like this and can help you with any questions you may have.

Yep I talked to her before and she said just try to keep the ammonia level lower than 0.25ppm. I don't know how long it will take for the 5gal to cycle with ammonia from Ace Hardware, I was planning on doing that but I dont want my fish to get stuck in the 1 gal bowl forever!
