Fungus?

Help! P.K., my red VT which I post about too much, has had symptoms of constipation for the last week or so. I fasted him for a few days then started feeding him two pellets in the morning and evening. I know I should get some treats for him... Moving on... So he's still got the whiteness on his belly and the bottom of his head but now he's two whitish-grayish spots on his head. One about the size of a scale or crumb and one the size of a fine grain of sand. I'm talking really fine. Like barely visible fine. I actually saw a similar thread just a minute ago. I think you should help him out too:

I would like to know what it is and how to treat it. Also if it is fatal and how long does can it go untreated. Thanks!

Okay.. without a picture, it's kind of hard to go on description alone, so I'll ask you some questions:

Do these spots kind of stand off the skin? You say 'grain of salt' - this could be ich (commonly brought on by too-cold water or rapid temps shifts and/or stress).

Google 'ich' images - look at several pictures of the fish in question and compare to the spots on your fish.

The treatment for that is really different to fungus, so it's important to get the diagnosis right. Ich will also multiply really fast usually, so that can make it more obvious. Ich is easily treated and won't kill your fish until it gets really bad, so you have time to observe it.


Are any of the grey patches soft/fuzzy looking? That's a different matter, different treatment..
