Velvet and Light

Curing Velvet is pretty straight forward.. involves up to two weeks of light deprivation due to its unique photosynthesis need.

My question.. do regular incandescent overhead light bulbs count? Does it have to be pitch black or is placing a fish in a room with zero sunlight enough?

I think from what all I have read, it is recommended to "cover the tank" or not use the overhead lights. Depending on the illness and fish, I cover the tank with a breathable but dark colored towel, or fabric.
