pH-lowering chemicals are essentially acid, so you could potentially burn your poor betta's fins off. Plus, if you were to use the chemicals, you would have to ensure that your dosage and your water's stats are exactly the same each time you make a water change, which is nearly impossible to do.
Rosebud, if you want to lower your pH, then the best way to go about it would be to buy a piece of driftwood. The tannins released would stain your water brown, but would lower the pH gradually and safely.
