Divided Tank problems..

So, I put my two boys in their 10gal divided tank yesterday. Of course they were flaring at eachother for a while. I checked up on them this morning and both of them have clamped fins and one looks like he's been biting his tail! What should I do? I used 1 sheet of needlepoint mesh and I planted plants but of course they have to grow in still. I'm not sure what I can do to fix the divider to make it better for them. I didn't think they could see eachother all that well...

use a black or white divider. they sell them at petsmart walmart may have the solid ones. I have a solid one.

Will there be enough water flow if it's solid?

I've never seen store bought solid dividers, ive seen the top fin ones but they are more see through than the needle point mesh. I used the mesh and im not having a problem but i have lots of silk plants in. is there any room to put in some fake silk plants until the real ones grow in? i bought two huge 12 inch silk plants from marina for my 10 gallon divided one is on each side plus i have 2 smaller ones on each side, they flare occasionally but nothing serious.

I use the plastic canvas with my divided tanks. I sowed bits of silk leaves along it and put at least three plants on each side so they can't see much. Eventually, mine ignored each other. I do know that halfmoons tend to be tailbitters often when put in a divided tank. At least in my experience. Not sure what kind of bettas you have though.

I have a crowntail and veil tail males in the divided tank. I never even thought of using silk plants! I think I may sew something like that onto the divider since I have tiny dwarf hairgrass growing along it on both sides. Thanks guys!!

Also, I'd just double check that they each have a hiding spot no matter where the other one is at on the other side. I just re-divided with one of my aqueon dividers and it helps to have something hollow/large blocking the other betta's view.

Have fun with your divided ten... They're great tanks.

I have had to move around males till I found 3 that worked.Yet when I was in Alaska, I never had an issue like that and I had 6 males in 2 divided tanks.

try using a big decoration in the middle of each section, it may help.

Many of us use double dividers with the heater and filter in the middle.
---Can't see through
---Even heat and filtration
---Hard to jump
---Easy place to pour refill water
---Cheap as the first one

My boys didn't settle at first so I slipped in a second piece of mesh, just a bit off set from the first piece, to break up the line of sight more. worked for them, they've settled right down and only have occasional flare bouts. That could be a temporary fix until your plants grow in.
