I think it's a good tank it's big enough and has a filter.

If you mean for spawning and growing out tank for fry then it wouldn't it needs to 10 gallons for spawning and depending on the size the spawn was which could be 200-500 fry you would need a even bigger grow out tank for them and you couldn't use the filter either you would need a sponge filter and a heater. But this tank is nice for just keeping a betta in the tank. I am currently tending fry and there are a lot but there only 10 days old now.

If you planning to just grow plants & no fish, then yes.

For a betta, I would recommend a tank with a lid. Otherwise, you will have to make your own lid if you want the fish to stay in the tank.

Also I don't think this Evolve 4 tank setup comes with a heater, so that will be another piece of equipment you would need to buy.

I second what MSG said, bettas can and WILL jump on occasion and you need a cover of some type. Also, you need a heater. If you were to put a fry in there, the same goes except the water needs to be warmer and the filter has to either be REALLY gentle and baffled well or just not in use at all.

I have the Evolve 2 and I really like it. In fact, I like it so much I just bought the 8. :) The Evolve does come with a lid, and it's worked well for me for the past few months. It is very appropriate for a betta with a modification to the filter output. The output is definitely too strong. I added a piece of a Tetra bio bag over the out flow and just used a rubberband to secure it. That has worked great.

I think it would work for a baby betta once the betta grew a bit. IMO my baby bettas seem to get stressed out by having too big of a tank when they're small. And you will need a heater, however there is space in the back of the tank, by the filter, to add a heater and still have the streamlined look.
