Java moss questions?

1. I know it grows fast, but how fast exactly? To be simple I suppose, how long to double it's current amount/coverage.(I'm looking for fast-ish growing plants to fill up a my 20gallon asap. xD)

2. Is fishing line ok to use to tie it to surfaces?

Anyone have any tips on care if they've used it personally?

Java moss does not grow fast. I believe most mosses are slow growers. Mine likes to grow up, and it turned a very nice shade of green (healthy looking!).

If you want fast growing plants you want anachris (probably butchered the spelling, and no idea of the scientific name), hygrophilia (any species), and I'm sure there are others, but these are the two I know are fast growers.
They are also hardy.

Fishing line/cotton thread are both suitable for tieing it to decor.

My moss is currently being trained to grow on a couple of flat, oval river stones. It doesn't grow wildly out of control, but it does slowly creep up on you and before you realize it, you do have more that you've started with.

Good thing about it is its next to impossible to kill, unless you keep it dry and in a dark box, in which case, it will die. You don't have to worry about lighting, CO2 and all that stuff either, the stuff grows without doing anything to it at all.
