White Film on the surface?

Hi everyone :D

So today when I came home and checked on my fish. His bowl has a film on the surface with like things attached to it. When I moved my finger across the surface to try to clean it up, it becomes like white stringy things... And my fish went crazy over it and he tried to eat it! What is it?

I immediately did a water change even though I just changed his water on Sunday.

On Sunday when I changed his water, I put Stress Coat, API Water Conditioner and 1 teaspoon of AQ Salt because several days ago he darted around the tank (that was the only time though) and he's been swimming around at the bottom lately, I don't know if he was trying to scratch himself or not. He looks pretty normal, no white spots or anything.

1 Gal Bowl. I change the water every other day 100%. It looks like a film on the surface and you can move it. But when I tried to get it off, it becomes like white stuff.

Twice a day about 5 pellets of Hikari Bio Gold. I also rotate his food between flakes, Bio Gold, bloodworms.

if your doing 5 pellets each time that is too much, but if your doing 5 total through out the day then your alright. Was the last time you did a water change Sunday (excluding the one today)?

Yeah I did a water change on Monday (sorry I put Sunday up there), put API Betta Water Conditioning, AQ Salt and API Stress Coat +. Then it got cloudy again so I did a water change again yesterday (which is Wednesday)

And yeah, 5 total not each time, I fed him 3 in the morning and 2 for dinner

hmmm. You know I noticed that spongebob decoration. When I had that it caused a much of problems in my tank, that filmy surface being one of them. Then it got covered in a a thick fungus. I would try maybe removing that and seeing if it doesn't change...

That's Biscuit's favorite hiding spot :( I will try that. Do you think he has parasites or anything else or maybe because of Aloe Vera from the Stress Coat, maybe ?

That's why I use filtration on my tanks, water movement keeps that film from collecting on the surface like that.

I'm not a big fan of stagnant water.

I would rinse sponge bob's decoration once in a while. That film on top gets coated on everything in the tank as well.
