I thought I'd never get a red betta or veil tail because they are plain and common.. I always looked for the more wildly colored and unique tailed bettas. I picked this guy up too see what he was.. he gave me a funny look.. and I put him back.. couldn't find a betta I wanted and was going to leave. But something about that three dollar veil tail tugged at me.. so I went back and took him home. He had a little bit of fin rot but it went away and healed on its own since he was out of his dirty cup.
First thing he did was build me a huge bubble nest.. first time I've had a betta do that. He is very persistent about it and even though I've had him a few months.. he will build another and another! Sometimes the size of half his 10g.
He had a surprise for me. Getting him out of that nasty cup.. he colored up a lot.. and wasn't just a red betta at all :P
All in all.. three dollars well spent :) It is amazing how much brighter bettas get with some TLC.
