Water change question

I've had my betta for almost a week, and I'm going to do my first 50% water change today. My question is, if I add water to the tank that is room temperature (about 72 degrees) and the water in the tank is 78 degrees will he be able to tolerate that? I can always take him out of the tank and wait until the water has reached a steady 78 again before putting him back in. Which is the better method?

The second one is your best choice but may I recommend floating half full cups of water in his tank and letting them warm? It's a bit easier on the fish and you don't have to worry about cold shocking him

When I do water changes of 50% or more I always put my betta in the cup and have it float in the tank for about 30-45 minutes. Every 15 minutes I add tank water into his cup. This enables him to get used to the temperature change without shocking him. When adding your betta to a different temperature it is always important to acclimate your betta slowly.

Usually when I do water changes I test the water temperatures to make sure they feel similar, then acclimate him how Kenny said just to double make sure xD
