My two Plakats, (maybe) female and male

The other day I saw the loveliest little plakat at the petstore, and I felt horrible for her because the water in her cup was filthy and she was shoved behind some other crap on the shelves... and so I got her. :D

Well, at least I think it's a she! Could anyone offer input on this, because I know plakats do have some differences between sexes, but I was under the impression PetsMart only sold male fish. I love her markings, she reminds me of a wee little koi.

And here's the definitely male that I rescued from the same place:

Right now I have them both in a sort-of 'hospital tank' while I make sure that neither have anything wrong with them, then they'll be introduced to my 10g and 15g, respectively. :)

You've got yourself a lovely pair of boys there! :)

Female PKs are usually smaller, with a rounded stomach, large eyes, even smaller fins than PK males, and a white spot on their belly called an oviposter. I know it can be confusing, but that's how I can tell. If you look at my avatar, that's a female betta.

Yeah, I knew about the oviposter but even on the one female I have (walmart rescue, ugh I hate that store for what they do to bettas) I could never 'see' it.

Thanks so much for the input, everyone! =)

Thanks to everyone that commented!

I made a little video of Ned, the red and white one, since getting good photos of him is nearly impossible.

HE IS NOT AMUSED BY THE FINGER.
