okay so i decided to make this thread about clearing up fin rot. i have no clue and i have a male double halfmoon named sybyl who has some slight blackness on his finns...

I am glad you are posting this because I have a male halfmoon who's fins are shredded and it can't be because my water isn't clean, warm enough, filtered, etc. (I test my water all the time & use aq salt too.) I tried Maracyn Oxy for over 5 days (it says 5 days) but nothing changed. None of my other bettas have fin rot and I use the same water and conditions for all tanks, even though I am sure they vary a bit.
Anyway I have so many emergency meds but I am not sure which ones to use. It seems like we need to use something that fights both bacteria and fungus?
I have:
Pima fix
Melafix
Tetracycline
Methyline Blue
Malachite Green
Stress Coat
Maracyn Oxy
Aquarium salt
reverse osmosis water
peat granules for lowering ph naturally
Anyone know if I can use a combo of these meds and not go out and buy Maracyn1 and 2? (especially since they seem expensive from what I saw today)
.. and sorry if this is considered "hijacking a thread" .. . just seems silly for me to start another fin rot thread if we both need similar info.

Hmmm, maybe. The only sharp things in his tank are Mopani wood but that is possible. Also, he's a total spazz , maybe he is a secret tail biter? Then again, it looks disintegrated, and did, before it ripped. Excuse the spots on the tank, it's just a temp hospital tank, just 1 gallon. Normally he has a 6.6 gallon.

Sometimes it doesn't go away with just aquarium salt treatments or with Maracyn or Maracyn2. My boy Eery who is a Halfmoon got it and I tried treating him for over a month and it just kept getting worse. Eventually I ended up having to trim his fins to cut off the rot. After I kept him in a QT with daily water changes with aquarium salt & betta fix. He's been the only one of my boys who's tails I have had to cut whose tail did not grow back much after the trim. It's good new for him though, he no longer has fin rot and his tail is short so it's easier for him to swim (he's got a little body and his large tail made it very difficult for him to swim properly).
Here are acouple pictures, the first is Eery before he got the fin rot, the 2nd is of him with fin rot- though it wasn't that bad in that photo, and the 3rd is him right now.
