I feel so stupid...

I was cleaning my QT tank that is on my bathroom counter.. I sat the heater in my sink and took the tank to rinse out in the kitchen... I came back and MY HEATER WAS STILL PLUGGED IN. For like 3-4 minutes. I immediately unplugged it... It didn't crack thankfully... I Let it cool down and it is now back in the tank, adjusting to the new water for 15 minutes... I'm going to plug it back in soon and keep an eye on the temperature... It didn't crack...

I feel very stupid.

I guess I'm lucky I have one that automatically shuts off when its out of the water and turns back on once its submerged.

Yes, you are lucky! LOL.

Well I let the heater sit in the tank without being plugged in for 15 minutes after it cooled down. Lol I was afraid it would like.. I dunno.. Explode once I plugged it in xDD It is working as it usually does; thermostat is working, it's heating correctly. I'm glad I didn break it haha... I got it very cheap online ($15 including shipping!) but all the good heaters I've seen in store are expensive!

If you dipped it in COLD water........

Then you would have CRACKED your heater.

BTW, sometimes a little water/condensation gets inside the tube. Don't worry about it.

Your heater is still a really good deal for the price considering all the features it has & it goes up to 93 degrees.

I especially like the temperature adjustment knob because it's short & stubby.

Don't forget, I left my 25W heater on for 12 hours before I NOTICED it.

If you have some nail polish you don't like, paint the wire above the plug. So you know which one plug is connected to the HEATER.

I usually use RED/Orange for heaters.

25watts is a very small amount of electricity. I only had the heater set @ 80 degrees or so.

The worst thing that would have happened is the heater melting through the WHOLE lid, falling into the water and killing the fish from the chemicals from melted plastic leeching into the water.

Also that little tank was sitting on top of a 4 foot piece of hard heat resistant stone.

I had to scrub the burned plastic residue off the glass tube, air dried it and I'm using it to heat my sorority tank right now.

Works just fine.
