I've never used maracyn 1 but I know maracyn 2 is powder. So I imagine 1 would be as well.

-- don't turn your heater up, it'll encourage the bacteria to multiply faster.

-- stick him on the AQ salt agenda recommended for fin rot in the sticky on diseases until you can get an antibiotic

-- the maracyns are fine for low grade fin rot - if this is advanced close to the body, get kanaplex or furan-2

This is a good site for betta disease in general. Scroll down until you find the part for fin rot, and the one for severe fin/body rot. I would put him in a smaller tank, maybe 1-2 gallons, and do lots of fresh water changes, for sure. Also, Maracyns are not strong enough for advanced rot, as is shown on this site. Please investigate the medicines listed. In the mean time, using aquarium salt cant hurt! Good luck, keep trying, and be patient. This takes weeks sometimes to cure. And once you stop the progress and get fin regrowth you can stop treating. You will be shocked how fast they will grow back. :) May not be perfect, but he will be pretty again. :)

i put some more Prime plus, did a bit of water change, kept him in the 20 gallon,, and put my other 2 with bad fins in there, and put in some Melafix and some aquarium salt.... the lady said she uses Melafix on her fish and it works great, and her fish are 200 $ fish.... its all natural and made for fin rot, and it 'rapidly' heals fins....

If it gets any worse you can preform an emergency surgery to cut off the infected parts. I dont trust melafix... never worked for me but I hope it does for you. You should see the finrot stop spreading in a few days if it is working, fins usually start growing back about 3-4 days after that.

I have used tannins from oak leaves (ever sense OFL recommended them they are my go to) and aq salt usually those things stop fin rot in its tracks. If not maracyn 2 has always fixed most issues. However I have had to take a fish out anesthetize it and cut off the rotting part of its fin, and hydrogen peroxide the rest, when nothing else was helping. Fin rot once it reaches to close to the body is hard to remove.
