First tank 10g

Hey guys! Awile back I impuslively bought a baby betta from Petco.. and I kept him in a 1/2gallon for about two weeks. I then bought a 10 gallon tank, and decided to put my baby in it! He's been doing well. I have 4 Glo-Fin tetras in there (Who are a GREAT choice if you want to keep Tetras with your betta, they are so nice! At first the Betta nipped their fins, but since then they're fine!) and 4 ghost shrimp. I have a Moss ball, some microsword grass, and Amazonian sword plants, along with one fake plant.

On a side note, does anyone else use an open top on their aquariums? I might get a glass top.. but I've never seen this guy jump on his own. He will jump at my fingers (he even follows them around!) I like the look, and im sure it benefits the plants.

A month and a half-ish? Hes starting to get really pretty neon blue on his fins and body, as well as getting a scaley look. He bullys the Tetras sometimes, which is kind of funny. I highly suggest keeping bettas in 10 gallons with other fish. It makes them seem tons more livlier than on their own. Sometimes the Tetras try and school with the Betta, which is kind of funny. The pot in the picture is the Bettas territory, he likes to sleep there, as well as hide there. If a Tetra strays down there, they get nipped and chased out. I've noticed that the shrimp hide there too, and the Betta doesnt mind them at all.

Of course you don't HAVE to have a top, but the pros are..

You won't accidently lose your fish due to jumping
Less evaporation of water
It's beneficial to the betta's labyrinth organ because then he is breathing in moist warm air when he goes to the surface, vrs dry cool air.
You don't have to worry as much (although it's still a good idea to cover with towel if you do) when spraying air fresheners, etc in the air.
Keeps out more dust particles and any other foreign objects that may fall in.

Just some thoughts to consider :)

Has anyone fed their Betta Brine shrimp before? I've put some in the tank before, but the Tetras got all of it. The Betta rarely eats in the middle column, never on the bottom.

I would recommend some form of top, so your light doesn't short circuit from the condensation.

Also what brand HOB filter is that you're using? It doesn't have any sort of water
flow control?

Also I have similar herb pot, but mine doesn't have a black finished glaze on the outside.

How tall are your plants?
You have 3 little patches of microsword grass?

Like the layout of everything so far.

If you have time, take a picture of the tank every 15-30 days.

I'm curious to see how things progress with the plants.
