If you don't actually see them spawn how do you know if they did spawn

My pair has been together and when I left them they were doing their dance under the nest and the male was attempting to clamp the female but they would get it for a split second and then break apart.

I had to leave and could not stay and watch them so my question is, how will I know if they actually spawned and if there are eggs in the nest?

The male looked like he was really clumsy and the female was aggressively trying to couple with him but he seemed more interested in the nest than her, he would give it a shot but then break away and go back to fussing with the nest, is that normal??

Yes it is. They might've not spawned yet and the female is not welcome to the nest yet.
To know if they have spawned, check under the nest with a flash light. If you see little white orbs hanging from the bubbles, then you have eggs.
You can also observe the male very closely, if he has eggs he will be gathering them with his mouth and placing them back in the nest.

The eggs are pretty easy to see in the nest, they are very tiny but you can definitely tell a difference between the bubbles and the eggs

Cool

If you have a flashlight, the eggs are opaque and bubbles are clear.

Easier way is to look at the fish
Male will be guarding the nest
The female will be hinding n she'll be half the thickness from the start
